Austin Therapy
If you are looking for Austin therapy, I encourage you to read this page and some of my blogs to see if I might be a good fit. Life can be a wonderful journey, but it is often filled with challenges along the way. Sometimes these challenges can become overwhelming, and we feel frustrated, defeated, unhappy, stuck, or confused. My role as a therapist is to help you overcome your challenges and achieve your goals.
What Ages of Clients Do I See?
I meet with clients who are thirteen and up. About 1/3 of the clients whom I see are adolescents, about 1/3 young adults (18-25), and about 1/3 adults. I also support parents through parent consultation to help with strategies to improve the parent-child relationship, manage problem behaviors more effectively, and improve the well-being of the children/teens (and parents!). I provide some family therapy, but more of an adjunct to work with teens and young adult clients. I do not work with children or provide couples therapy.
Presenting Challenges, Problems, and Concerns?
I work with people who are experiencing challenges such as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or would just like to increase their overall life satisfaction and happiness/well-being. I also work with people who are struggling with technology, such as tech addiction, and provide guidance for parents and families trying to achieve a greater tech/life balance.
What Is My Therapy Philosophy and Treatment Approach?
My goal is to partner with you (or your teen/young adult) in the change process. Ultimately, my goal as an Austin therapist is to help you learn strategies to manage your challenges and achieve your goals on your own. Like you, I am always learning and growing. Thus, my treatment philosophy and therapeutic approach evolve over time as new research findings become available, and as I learn from my experiences with my clients.
If you like what I have to say, then I might be a good fit for you or your teen. As I will describe, a good fit is THE most important factor to successful therapy outcomes. I combine several theoretical orientations in my practice, with the primary ones being Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, positive psychology, choice theory/reality therapy, solution-oriented approaches, and existential philosophy. I try to tailor my approach to best suite your needs. Thus, I use your input and feedback to help guide the direction of therapy to help you get what you want out of therapy.
Does Therapy Work?
In general, research has found that people who receive therapy are better off than 80% of people with similar problems who don’t receive therapy. In short, therapy works, but it doesn’t work for everyone equally well. Much of the success of therapy depends upon the quality of “fit” between the therapist and the client. Basically, the better the fit between the therapist and the client, the more likely the client will get a positive outcome. This inspires me to be the therapist that you need me to be to help you meet your needs and goals.
